More than a gift….An extraordinary way of life…..

We are in Euronat, a large naturist center. A very big one even…. Hundreds of acres, tens of kilometers of paved roads, a huge beach and thousands of people in the summer. In this area, nudity is highly valued. People who choose such a center usually know why they are there and accept the rules.

There is one exception, however, which is significant... Children and young people... I will ignore the specific problem of young people and consider only children.

Although many of them, convinced by their environment of the benefits of naturism, willingly submit to the rule of nudity, it must be recognized that a minority is more or less resistant. Clearly, nudity is not attractive to these children.

But why are these kids swimming in their bathing suits?

The adults are amazed. They notice that instead of taking the opportunity handed to them on a tray: skinny dipping, some children on the naturist beach keep on those swimming trunks that swell in the water and make them look ridiculous. For most adults who experience this behavior, it is simply incomprehensible because it is so obvious to them that swimming without a bathing suit is a pleasure.

An attempt at an explanation:

Society, ie the child's family environment, almost never sees nudity as a positive behavior. But on the contrary. Nudity is often seen as a wacky idea, an eccentricity sometimes mixed with perversity. Under no circumstances does it seem normal in our time to live naked, and outside of naturist centers nudity is clearly suppressed. Because parents are obviously not the only ones influencing their child. The friends, the media, the adults who surround them have a real and sometimes decisive influence on it.

Simply put, in our French society, being naked is considered “bad” and being clothed is considered “good”. The child needs these certainties to give him security and help him build his judgment.

But what happens when it enters a naturist site?

Then it no longer works, or rather, it works the other way around. Now the nudity that was banned, vilified and sometimes ridiculed is suddenly acceptable, decent and even recommended!

When you talk to kids who keep their bathing suits on at the beach, it's easy to get the feeling that they keep them on for swimming too, simply because in their minds it's not "good" to take them off. Maybe around them on the naturist beach the others are naked, maybe some adults even ask them to undress, but it's still not good......

These children did not have the opportunity to meet people who revealed to them the reasons for their own undressing, to feel the body in its entirety, the pleasure of being naked, the joy of feeling the wind that blows you with every pore of your skin caresses, the sun that warms you all around, the elemental contact with the earth and the sea, quite simply the fact of being comfortable in your body, in total harmony with nature, but also the refusal to conform to irrational conventions subdue that force you to wear useless bathing suits, the respect that you show to each other, more or less old, more or less physically privileged and therefore above all…. no judgment in the eyes of others… None of this is seen by these children who are against nudity.

Furthermore, when we observe the children in Euronat playing table tennis or badminton in the multipurpose room, we see that almost all of them are clothed. This is not compulsory, especially if the temperature is above 30°C. In this case, it is not just a minority of children who oppose nudity, but almost all of them. Real naturist kids feel left out or get dressed again!

However, some animators prescribe nudity, for example, in “archery”, and this is not a problem for anyone.

It's time everyone followed the same rule because we are in a naturist center.

So let's be clear then:

If asking a child to undress on a day-to-day basis is reprehensible because it means making them do something “bad”, it is important to know that in a naturist center it is not so, because that is what it means to get it to do something "good".

Yes , in naturist centers, the practice of nudity by adults in contact with children must be encouraged. Yes , it is entirely possible and even desirable to praise children who manage to change stubborn habits by shedding their clothes…. It's not always easy. Even for parents or animators, it is not enough to demand nudity by authority, it is necessary to create an interest of their own in the minds of children. By setting your own example, of course, but the example alone is not enough. It is necessary to make it clear to all children that nudity practiced in a naturist center is honest, unrestricted and definitely a “good”., regardless of the negative messages coming from outside, regardless of the irritating mockery of school friends, regardless of the raunchy jokes spread by some media…. Because it is precisely this 180° turn in their conception of nudity, this reversal of the values ​​they thought were firmly defined, that is the obstacle that prevents them from accepting a pleasure that seems obvious to us convinced adults.

And let us be convinced:

To think that we respect children when we refuse to approach them to inform them, to share our beliefs with them, to help them eliminate prejudices that harm their physical and moral development is an intellectual misunderstanding. It is a waste of valuable opportunities to leave children unaware of the values ​​that every naturist should defend and propagate for lack of personal conviction or determination.

May the management of Euronat give appropriate instructions to the animators, may certain animators be advised so that they can act with delicacy in order to change the whole atmosphere of this great naturist center.

Nudism on public beach?

Should you even make it clear to a child that nudism is not okay on a public bathing beach, or only from a certain age upwards?

Think a child can already sense when it is stared at. then it can still decide whether it remains naked or submits to the dictatorship of the textile workers. As long as a boy doesn't get an erection or, in the case of a girl, doesn't get his period, you should take it easy.

It is important that the child feels comfortable and that their worldview is respected and tolerated by their parents. Every now and then it happens that other children follow suit. You stay the next time you change from dry pants to swimming trunks, then nape.

Strange or atypical question...mankind has simply lost its natural behavior! Imagine how naturally the Indians live. Running around naked in the forest and bathing naked in the clean river. And nobody bothers you! Our heads are full of ecclesiastical (religious) morals that don't exist in Mother Nature.

Children should be allowed their natural nudity for as long as possible.

They learn inappropriate prudery and questionable rules of decency and aesthetics early enough in puberty. There are people who are completely unsettled when someone stands in front of them naked. The fact of the nudity then preoccupies her more than what the person wants to say or does. So far we are again.

Do you really want that for your kids? I do not think so. We've had to endure toilsome hippies and fight hard battles with die-hard church officials to gain at least some physical freedom. That's why we should be careful not to take everything away from our children by indoctrinating them early on with things that they can't yet question. 

The child will automatically ask why the others are clothed. At least that's what my older daughter did. And I replied that there is a textile requirement for adults on this part of the beach, to take into account the feelings of a large church-misguided group, the anxious, and people with impaired body proportions, because we are nice.

And that she doesn't have to worry about it yet because it doesn't affect her yet. She left happy with that. And that's exactly how I would explain it to a complaining adult. So far nobody has seriously complained.

Family nudism

You can often hear that children should not see their parents naked, because, firstly, it is indecent, and secondly, it can lead to promiscuity, early onset of sexual activity and other troubles, up to incest tendencies. The supporters of this point of view are not embarrassed by the fact that for hundreds of years children and parents visited the bathhouse together, and no one considered it indecent. And the children from this in no way became promiscuous.
I must say that until recently there was no scientific evidence of how traumatic it is for the psyche of a child to see parents naked. And only in the 90s of our century, American scientists Lewis and Janda obtained the first results of research on this topic.

Here are the descriptions of these results given by William Masters and Virginia Johnson:
"Many experts have speculated about the possible negative consequences of parental exposure in the presence of a child or his sleeping in the same bed with them. However, until recently, these assumptions were based mainly not on facts, but on conclusions. The latest research aimed at elucidating the role of such experience in the formation of adult sexuality, shed light on this issue.
In 1988, Lewis and Janda (1988) conducted a written survey of 77 male and 133 female psychology students on childhood sexuality.

Respondents also had to answer questions about their current sexual relationships and behavior.
The study did not reveal evidence of a negative impact of the type of parental nudity on the formation of the sexuality of their children.

In contrast, boys who saw their parents naked were more likely to make physical contact and affection when they became young adults. If such an experience occurred between the ages of 6 and 11, the only consequence was a tendency to engage in casual sexual relations.

Little girls who watched their parents naked, becoming adults, were characterized by increased sexuality compared to their peers; They did not experience any difficulties in sexual intercourse. If girls saw the nakedness of their parents at the age of 6-11 years, then, like boys of this age, the only consequence was a tendency to early sexual intercourse, although the reliability of these data is questionable.

Boys who slept in the same bed with their parents before the age of 5 had higher self-esteem as adults, had more sexual intercourse, and had an increased propensity to have sexual intercourse compared to other men. Women who slept with their parents in early childhood experienced less discomfort with physical contact or intimacy compared to other women. Neither men nor women showed long-term adverse effects of sleeping in bed with their parents during childhood. Thus, those who claim that the joint sleep of children with parents can have undesirable consequences are sounding the alarm completely unreasonably.

The conclusions of the Lewis and Janda study cannot be considered conclusive, especially since the data obtained from student surveys may not be applicable to larger populations. However, this study opens the door to a future systematic study of child sexuality that has not yet been carried out."

Similar studies were carried out at a later time. Igor Semenovich Kon talks about one of them in his article "Can Children See Their Parents Naked": In a longitudinal study of family life styles, 200 boys and girls were systematically examined for 18 years, along with many other topics, the researchers recorded whether these children saw parental nudity and whether they happened to witness the so-called "primary scenes".

When the subjects reached the age of 17-18. this life experience was compared with a large set of psychological traits, including the nature of communication with parents and peers, the presence of antisocial behavior, the quality of sexual life, etc. It turned out that parental nudity in itself does not have any harmful effect on children. As for the "primary scenes", their influence depends on the sex of the child. In boys, this spectacle (experienced before the age of 6) correlates with a lower risk of contracting a venereal disease in youth or becoming the culprit of an unwanted pregnancy, while in girls this risk, on the contrary, increases.

Naturally, scientists do not draw any pedagogical conclusions, since the influence of any psychological event depends on many other individual characteristics of the child's development. For one, the kind of parental nudity is a dangerous sexual "temptation" and for another it is a way to satisfy a healthy curiosity, and this reaction largely depends on the general properties of the culture and its attitude towards nudity and sexuality. However, the study by Okami et al. once again reminds us that the psychoanalytic concept of "mental traumas" that was born in the framework of an anti-sexual Victorian culture, which are revealed only after a long time, requires a critical attitude.

Is naturism detrimental to the upbringing of children?

 Of course, I didn’t take the title seriously, but I’ve heard that opinion from many people and I don’t agree with it. So in the winter we have time to argue: - Is it really detrimental to the moral upbringing of children to see their parents and friends without clothes? - Does naturism have a sexual background among children playing naked together? Instead of a discussion, I wrote this imaginary report, if you feel like it, you could agree, if you are reluctant to argue!

We visited the NATURIST CAMPINGS in Croatia mostly as a family of eight. Who are the starters of it all My twin sister Juli and her husband Vili.

- When did you start?
- In ancient times we had a holiday in Martyr. In the summer of June, we were sunbathing in the middle of the empty water in Ladik, and the swimsuits were removed from us. We had no idea a lifestyle had started at that moment. When the children were born, the island of Agárd, the wild lakes of Délegyháza and Dunavarsány came. In four of us we enjoyed bathing and sunbathing without clothes.
-With the kids? Weren’t you afraid that the sight of people without clothes would hurt their children’s moral upbringing?

-Yes, we've heard that opinion and we're protesting against it. The naturalness of the human body carries no sexual content for either children or adults. But it brings them closer to naturalness, to the beloved of nature.
-And if they're not nudists?
-Then they are much more enlightened than the other children, they do not need to flirt with the "forbidden" pictures.

-Are they undressing in front of anyone?
- That's stupid! Our children, and the other children in our company, are at least as shy in a foreign environment as the others, but they don’t have the superfluous inhibitions.
- There was a turning point in your family life when you became “family, social naturists”.

-1990 we got lost in Mindszent-Ányás, the naturist community of the Tiszapart, and we are still stuck there to this day. It is a fantastic company, based on the families of the surrounding core, Mindszent, Hódmezővásárhely, Szeged and the surrounding area, who are united by the worship of the Tisza, the social life, the love of nature and the naturist way of life.
"Are you sure you had a good time with this, but the kids?"
- In the meantime, they have grown up, but the happy time, when they often played in huge company, got to know the water, the forest and water sports, remained decisive in their lives. They have learned to adapt constructively to challenges, to communicate with a large group of children and adults.
“We’ve been involved with this, Józsi, and our two kids literally grew up in this medium every summer. Thus, for eight of them, we planned a summer month among the Naturist naturists almost all year round.

-If you look at these kids and their other companions, you may notice that the naturist, close-to-nature lifestyle has had an extra node on their empathy, their recovery.

- And how did you go to Croatia?
-Boldly! The war broke out in the south of the country and we set out for Istria with the two children. We got to Solaris Camping and got acquainted with a new kind of naturist lifestyle where not 20-50 naked people are vacationing next to each other, but thousands.
"And how much did it lie to you?"
- What do we say? That it was the best, most pleasant, cheapest vacation of our lives on the Croatian coast. So much so that after that we camped around Istria for years and went on to the island of Krk. And of course we took you with us.

Should children be introduced to nudism?

Well, I believe that if the child is not introduced until the age of 10-11, then at an older age this may already be a problem. Then he already had his own opinion ... For girls, it’s probably even better to have time before 7-9 years old. But here it is also important HOW to do it. It is best if in the team where the child is supposed to be introduced, there would be his peers. And older, and younger, and both sexes. So that the child sees that "we are not alone." Then this, as it is ... "cognitive dissonance" can generally be reduced to zero. Because we have our own cognitive here ...

I read that studies have been conducted that show that nudist children perceive the naked body as natural, they, unlike other children, have no desire to peep, and there is less curiosity about the sex differences between boys and girls. A smaller percentage also enters into early sexual intercourse than among "ordinary" children.
On the other hand, this issue is very delicate. Children do not like differences, I mean that at school for being "not like everyone else" or parents "not like everyone else" you can very easily become an outcast.

Hello! I think children can be taken up to 5 years old, they still don’t understand. After that, I wouldn't recommend it. This is due to the fact that in the future it can result in psychological illnesses, not serious, but unpleasant. For example, later on, a grown child will not have a desire to have sex, etc. Therefore, let them choose for themselves "to be a nudist or not" at least from the age of 17, and even better from the age of 18.
It has long been known to everyone that small children do not experience any discomfort being naked even on textile beaches. This is because they take their natural state for granted, they have not yet been instilled, the shame of the body has not been imposed. After all, these are only the installations of the society around us, nothing more. And therefore, in my opinion, you just need to let your children make their own choice, but at the same time explain that there are norms of behavior in society, and they must be observed.

In general, what leads to mental illness is that parents try to raise children in an extremely puritanical style, while at school and on the street everything is completely different. and this is where the conflict of attitudes begins, which can end in frustration.
In addition, puberty begins at 12-14 years of age. And just from this age, sexual attraction begins to form (these are average numbers, so it's pointless to find fault with them). And not 18 years old. In fact, in almost all cultures, the normal age for marriage was considered just 12-15 years old. It was believed that just by this age a person becomes an adult and can be quite consciously responsible for his actions. And each time it was determined individually. For example, with the help of some kind of ritual - how ready for it, then an adult. And 18 years is an extreme convention. That is, at 17 years 11 months and 30 days, the psyche is still not strong, but at the age of 18 it is already quite strong.
All sorts of norms of social behavior, again, were invented by society itself. There are Papuan children from childhood running around naked, like their parents, and nothing. They do not have any psychoses on the topic of sex as a class. Therefore, it all depends on the parents, how they want to raise the child. For example, I am not a fanatical naturist. If it is impossible to swim without swimming trunks, I will quite calmly and splash in them with pleasure. Therefore, there is an opinion that if from childhood to bring up in children a calm attitude to this topic, and not to drive them in that they need to sunbathe exclusively without panties, then they will not experience any problems either with the psyche or with sexual desire.
If the children are already big, and you want to bring them to a boring beach, it all depends on the settings that you laid in them before.
Here is such a logical conclusion.

If the parents are nudists, and the child communicates with nudists from childhood, then this is probably normal, to be honest, I personally would like to communicate with people whose children have been involved in nudism since childhood, and who have already grown up, and with the children themselves, but already grown up . 3 years ago we accidentally hit a nudist beach (we are me, my then 14 year old daughter and friend is 30 years old), but we sunbathed a little further, there were nudists on the right, homosexuals were behind, it was certainly cool, a year later I first got into the baths naturists, then to the beach and now I can’t imagine how I used to live without it, my daughter told me that she would never forget how I brought them to a nudist beach, that it was terrible, now she knows that I have been visiting for 3 years nudist baths and the beach, takes this calmly, but I don’t go there myself, and I can’t persuade my friend to visit these places, maybe her personal life would improve right away ...

Children are born naturists

 

Many people think that it can be dangerous to take children on naturist beaches or other naturist arenas. "There may be pedophiles there…" Since many are unfortunately affected by society's taboos, the naturist community is small and far too few children get the pleasure of enjoying the sun and water without clothes. Therefore, the naturist community is currently not a place where pedophiles can frolic. In other public baths and beaches, on the other hand, there are plenty of children… There can be pedophiles everywhere. Children must always be protected!

Nature, naturism, natural! We are all naturally born naked. But before the children have stopped using diapers, they should put on clothes that look like little pop stars. On the beach, the little one should wear sporty swimming trunks or bikinis that are a copy of mom's sexy swimwear. I remember once when I was little. My cousin and I had bathed in our bikinis. They were wet and cold to wear. When we came up from the water, my cousin shouted "mom, take off my bra!". We can smile crookedly about it today, but does a small child need to go with a bra?
By bringing children into the naturist environment from an early age, it gives them opportunities to see that everyone is different and that our bodies change with age. Who has defined what is beautiful? Can not a body that has lived a long life and with traces of these also represent something beautiful? Most people want to teach their children respect for others. When the undersigned brought his own children to Huk outside Oslo, it was important to prepare them that it is good to see, but not stare at others. It has to do with respect, and applies everywhere in society.
Today, children are influenced daily through the media to believe that the only thing that makes them happy is a body ideal that has been fixed and retouched. An example was the parents who told about their 5 year old daughter who changed clothes in the toilet. The adults are the children's models. Free adults with a natural relationship to their own body give children good opportunities to develop the same. Many parents find it more challenging for a child in puberty to be comfortable as a naturist. Children who previously enjoyed the naturist beach suddenly refuse to join. Puberty is a time that for many is a difficult time in several areas. It can be difficult to share the body's development before the child / young person themselves is used to it. Many boys and perhaps men reserve themselves from visiting a naturist beach for fear that they will suddenly be allowed to "stand". But isn't "a stand" natural? And "they" get up just as it is on a textile beach as well, like tent poles. There is reason to believe that if a child has grown up with a naked body being something natural from an early age, it is easier to find back to this when the hormones have finished ravaging the body. Most people want their children to have good self-esteem, like their own body and have respect for others. By letting the children grow up in a naturist environment, you give them this chance in a completely natural way!

As soon as it becomes a little hidden, more difficult to access and rockier (and deeper in the water it usually also becomes then) the children are thinned out and there is more child-forbidden activity.

We have previously lived in Uppsala and have on most occasions bathed in the nude bath in Fjällnora, with and without children.
They are a very mixed age for those who bathe there. Unfortunately, it has not often been other families with children, but on a few occasions it has been.
There are a bunch of slightly older people who are almost always there throughout the summer, they are nice and good at maintaining order there. You have read about sex orgies on nude beaches in the evening newspapers and other examples of horror, but you will definitely not come across that in the mountain north if nothing radical has happened there in the last two years.
We have never felt uncomfortable or suspected that someone was checking out our children or so.
There are more naked kids on the regular beach in the mountain north so I do not understand why pedophiles would stay on the naked beach.

Naturists usually enjoy swimming and sunbathing without clothes. But - Naturism is not just a way to swim and sunbathe without clothes. Naturism is a way of life where people get closer to each other and gain an increased respect for the individual, a belief in human values ​​and a perception of equal rights and value. Social nudity promotes security and self-esteem and strengthens friendship. Social nudity is an important component of Swedish and international naturism. The SNF's statutes state, among other things. a. the following:

The goal of naturism is to promote human physical and mental health.
This goal can be achieved through the spiritual and physical freedom that naked intercourse between the sexes constitutes during play, swimming, sports, and outdoor life in a clean and healthy environment.
Naturism distances itself from the abuse of stimulants and is politically and religiously neutral.

It may also be appropriate to clearly point out that organized naturism reacts strongly to child pornography, pedophilia and degrading pornography. Sunbathing and swimming without clothes is also much nicer, it's easier and it's even healthier: You avoid wet swimwear and you do not have to think about whether someone would possibly take it badly if they saw a tassel, a snot or a naked breast. You do not have to get dirty under the bathrobe, under a bath towel or in a changing cabin, etc. You do not have to think about whether to change to the nasty wet swimsuit again to take another dip or whether to skip the dip. In other words: less hassle and more comfortable swimming! A naturist does like everyone else when he or she is going to sunbathe or swim, with the exception that you do not put on clothes again once you have taken them off. If you are not already a naturist, you will discover the benefits the day you visit a nude pool or even better a naturist campsite.

It is not forbidden under Swedish law to swim without clothes anywhere. There is no law that mandates swimwear when bathing e.g. on public bathing beaches where it is generally assumed that one should wear swimwear. On the other hand, there are laws that prohibit indecent or provocative conduct that are perceived as disturbing public law and order.
What this is can be interpreted differently in different places and in different situations. Naturists try as much as possible to avoid provoking with their nudity and to behave in all contexts in a way that can not be interpreted as inappropriate.

Note that being a nudist is not the same as being a naturist! You do not become a naturist just by taking off your clothes. You just get naked!
He or she is only a nude bather until the day when he or she becomes a member of a non-profit association that lives and learns according to INF's and SNF's objectives. Then you can call yourself a naturist!

We who are members of naturist associations affiliated with SNF today call ourselves Naturists . The words " naturist " and " naturism " have been coined in the naturist movement. In the past, we were usually called nudists. In the mass media, we are still called nudists. In English, they sometimes say nudist and sometimes naturist. In French and Dutch, they only talk about naturists, while the Germans prefer to use FKK, FreiKörperKultur. In 1964, the International Naturist Federation established a definition or explanation for the word naturism. "naturism is ....," and in modern reference books it now often says "Naturist - follower of naturism".

Unfortunately, this has not prevented the words from being annexed by the porn industry and that anyone who does something without clothes often wants to refer to their business as a naturist thing. Organized naturism must do what it can to regain the meaning of "naturist" and "naturism" to what they were originally intended to mean.

No person is a direct member of SNF. Organized naturists are members of an association which in turn is a member of SNF. SNF is a member of the International Naturist Association, INF.

SNF's activities are governed (budget, business plan, etc.) largely by the decisions made at Riksmöten (RM) which are held every summer. At these RMs, SNF's board is also elected, which consists of unpaid persons willing to fight for the spread and acceptance of naturism in Sweden.

What we believe in.

As naturists, we have long been convinced of the value of our "lifestyle" and there has been a general agreement on why. This presentation aims to account for a number of precise "beliefs" that show why naturism is so important both for us and our surroundings.

Not everyone will agree on everything. Some will be debated, but this is the case with all "beliefs", regardless of which philosophy, religion or phenomenon is to be described.

The naturist's beliefs.

Naturists have realized that nudity is an enjoyable, natural and moral state that provides benefits to practitioners and to society at large.

Decency and shame.

• The human body in all its various forms has an inherent beauty that everyone has every reason to be proud of.
• Nudity in itself is not obscene, something to be ashamed of or immoral.  

 

Children.

• Raising children to respect their own and others' bodies develops their well-being and nurtures responsible sexual behavior when they grow up.
• Children have the right to know what people really look like.

 

Social dividing lines and respect.

• Naturism generates self-respect and respect for others regardless of shape, age, gender, size, color or disability.
• People need to be accepted as they are and not for what kind of clothes they have.
• Shared nudity counteracts social barriers while clothing can accentuate differences.

 

Clothes.

• Clothes can provide the necessary protection but are often unnecessary and can also be harmful.
• Naturism surpasses fashion.
• In a tolerant society, it is a personal choice how and if to dress.
• The authorities shall promote tolerance and not impose unnecessary restrictions on personal liberty.

 

Environment, nature and quality of life.

• Naturism encourages respect for and harmony with the environment.
• Naturism can increase the quality of life through joy and simplicity.
• Naturism can reduce the impact on the environment.

Nudism: is it okay to be naked in front of your children?

Chances are we all agree that intentional nudity, nudism, is nobody's business when it's practiced behind closed doors (and windows) or on the walls of a strip camp, between consenting adults. In fact, spending time naked can be good for your skin, help you sleep better, and can help you get that much-needed vitamin D when you're outside.

But what if parents are routinely naked in front of their children? That's ok? Is it, in any way, harmful to children?

Although it is not difficult to find opinions, it is difficult to find studies on the effects of parental nudism. A study of child welfare and mental health professionals found, however, that a significant number of these professionals maintain that intervention is required in cases where parents engage in behavior considered border crossing, including co-sleeping, exposure to nudity of parents and parents enter the bathroom without knocking while the child is taking a bath. A total of 75 percent of these professionals responded that they would consider intervention if a mother "often" appeared nude in front of her five-year-old son.

The answers, we must admit, say more about Western cultural norms than about the inherent dangers of nudism. While I am quite sure that these same professionals would not consider it appropriate for children to be able to see their mother's breasts as something natural, would they consider organizing an intervention for them among the Himba peoples of South Africa, whose women do not cover their bodies? superiors? I doubt it.

Nudity, then, cannot be considered in a vacuum, but only in the cultural context in which it takes place. In the context of the lives of these mental health professionals, and most likely in your own context, nudity is considered sexual, and that's where the problem with nudism and children comes in.

Scholars have shown that nudists, presumably like the Himba, are not sexually aroused by the sight of naked bodies. Being used to nudity in a non-sexual context, they just see bodies, not potential sex, unless other things pique their interest. The same can easily be said for situations that non-nude parents are likely to find themselves in at some point or another. There is nothing sexual about changing clothes when your child might be watching or your child suddenly needs the bathroom while he is there brushing his teeth.

Our feelings about nudity develop within the society we live in, and if you are a nudist who has children, your children's feelings will too. At some point, what they've grown up seeing as normal becomes something they question, because nudity isn't something everyone participates in. In fact, children may begin to experience parental nudism as shameful, and it could have a detrimental psychological effect on them.

Therefore, I can only say that I believe, in the context of Western society, that parents who wish to practice nudism should never engage their children against their will, and if their children express negative feelings towards parental nudism, or even hint to them, those parents should wear clothes.

Is nudism ok for kids?

Do you think nudism with kids is okay? I am asking because we have been invited by friends to go on a naturist holiday together next year. But somehow I don't feel very comfortable with the thought... have you already taken a naturist holiday with children? How was your experience? I think I'll cancel...I don't have a problem with nudism, but when there are children it's different.

It depends on the age of the kids I would think. As long as they are still so small that the feeling of shame is still largely undeveloped, they will certainly enjoy running around naked. If they are older and new to the naturist experience, this can be rather stressful, especially when there are not so close adults involved. It is of course very individual and depends on the developmental level of the child, where the limit is. I was about 12 when I went naturist with my parents and although there wasn't an uptight atmosphere in our home, it wasn't a nice experience at all. At the beginning of puberty I felt extremely uncomfortable and didn't want to repeat that. Neither did my parents, thank God. 

Of course that's okay, but for me naturism is a philosophy of life, not an experiment. We let our children grow up in the spirit of nudism, ie we are only naked at home in summer and winter and only put something on when we open the door to strangers (post office, parcel service, craftsmen...). Friends of the children, especially if they have been visiting since kindergarten/primary school, have all seen us naked - in consultation with their parents - at the latest when they stayed with us or accompanied us to the swimming pool or on vacation. That's why it was never a problem for our three and some of their friends to be naked in front of other nudists, whether you knew them or not, until about 14/15.

Our son, raised freely, went with us to YU-FKK until he was 10 years old. From 11a he didn't want to go there anymore and gave us other holiday suggestions (textile beaches). So our experience with him, we only understood his very natural "shame" later: He was ashamed! If your children are <9a old then take them with you on a nudist holiday. But with inveterate naturists of many years there is hardly a basis for discussion on this topic. Talk to your children beforehand and say: If you don't like it, we'll leave immediately .

Our experience : We were on naturist vacation with our friend (a doctor/neurologist). His assistant sent one of his patients (middle class/official mentally unstable, about 35 years old) after him. A meeting at the naturist campsite. was agreed for the evening. The planned treatment - to stabilize the man again - was: We were all dressed, he came to us (as recommended by the doctor) naked. That went completely wrong. Now I understand his shock.

Why not? It's not really "sensational" here. One can respect the sense of shame of children and young people. This is also very different for them. And "mix" is no longer a problem today. In my experience, including in my circle of acquaintances, things quickly fall off when people of the same age join in. 2 years ago the smallest (then 11) announced, "never in his life nudist". And on the 2nd day no one was faster than that with the other kids naked and only seen to eat.

I find it almost more difficult to ride with people you know than to be on a beach where you don't know anyone. I wouldn't want that myself. Sometimes we "ended up" on Crete's nudist beaches when the kids were small, no problem anyway. I always wear bikini bottoms and I think everyone should be able to wear them how they want. I wouldn't want to expect anyone to be forced to be naked, certainly not my children. And we are by no means uptight, but we have noticed a clear change in the children's sense of shame with each additional year of life.

If someone feels uncomfortable, then the tour doesn't deserve the name "holiday"...
